How to build a successful prompt

Getting the most out of Copilot is all about using it right.

A sharp prompt can make the difference between getting a generic response or one that adds value for you. Here's our guide on how to create a successful prompt:

1. Define a clear intention:

Start by clarifying what you want to achieve. The clearer your intention, the better the outcome.

Example: “Identify the top 3-5 priorities for this week.”

2. Create a relevant context

Explain why you need the information and who it relates to. This helps Copilot deliver a tailored response.

Example: “To prepare for a strategy session with management on Q1 goals.”

3. Choose your data sources

Be specific about which sources or types of data Copilot should use.

Example: “Analyze data from sales reports and the CRM system for the last three months.”

4. Set the expectations

Describe how you want the output to match your needs.

Example: “Present the results as a concise list that is easy to share.”

This is how it all looks together:

“Identify the top 3-5 priorities for this week. Prepare for a strategy session with management on Q1 goals. Use sales reports and CRM data from the last three months as a basis. Present the results as a concise list.”

Nuggets of gold from Allan Buus Pihl

Behind today's door is Allan Buus Pihl's best tip when it comes to Microsoft Copilot.

“Copilot Studio har egenskaberne til at påvirke måden, hvorpå virksomheder arbejder og eksekverer processer. Vi kan i dag bygge agenter, som kan agere og er domæne-specifikke videnskataloger, men også “autopiloter”, som kan agere på vegne og/eller supporteret af os på en intelligent og virksomhedsbestemt facon. Læg hertil, at agenterns egenskaber udvides månedligt. Så husk at “tjekke ind” løbende for at sikre, at du får fuld værdi af din agent.”
