In 2011, Shukriya Bile graduated and worked as a nurse for the next eight years. But as time passed, she became more convinced that she needed to do something else.
- While I was working at a nursing home, we needed a new medical record system, and this is where I got a budding interest in IT and the feeling that it would be exciting to do something else. For a long time, I had a dream of helping people in a different way than through nursing.
While the desire for a career change grew and the thought of a continued future as a nurse diminished, the prospect of going from full-time salary to SU was the main reason she didn't take the leap sooner. However, her interest in software only grew, ultimately leading her to make a new career plan.
"Something I've taken from nursing is how to build good relationships and communicate with all types of people. It might not be the first thing you think of when you say "IT", but it's an essential skill to have - especially in Delegate, where there's a big focus on good social relationships with colleagues and customers alike."
Shukriya is married with four children, so the transition to being a student again has taken some planning:
- Luckily, my husband has a good job, which has made it possible for us to arrange things so that I could start a new education. But it has required us to find new, good routines. Software technology is a challenging degree program, and when you have four kids, it is an extra challenge.
When she started her internship in the 5th semester, she first became acquainted with Delegate and the title of 'Denmark's best workplace for women.'
- The IT industry is male-dominated, so for me, it was motivating to experience a workplace that also focused on this challenge, and it appealed to me. Since then, I've also confirmed that Delegate is a great place to be - even when you have children. I have time off when I have time off, whereas as a nurse, I could quickly end up working overtime or having to work weekends.
Ten years after graduating as a nurse, Shukriya decided to embark on a new and utterly different education, and in the winter of 2025, she will graduate as a Software Engineer:
- I have never regretted my choice to study and work as a nurse. It has given me some essential skills that I wouldn't have done without. There is nothing I would change because it has helped shape the person I am today.
Shukriya finds that she can use many of her experiences as a nurse in her work in the IT industry:

In the winter of 2024, Shukriya completed her internship at Delegate and continued as an Associate Consultant while she finished her studies at Aarhus University.
